A new epidemic is spreading in the United States, this time among birds, Deutsche Welle reported.
The disease infects birds in the federal capital, Washington, and is spreading rapidly. Experts do not know the reason.
In many places in the United States, people find dead birds. The mysterious disease has been raging since April.
Ornithologists explain that dead or sick birds have inflamed and swollen eyes and apparently suffer from neurological disorders that cause them to lose balance.
“It’s not uncommon for birds to have eye problems,” said Jim Monsma, founder and director of the City Wildlife Animal Rescue Center. However, the current situation is unusual.
The disease has spread at least 965 km, all the way to Indiana. According to one theory, birds transmit it through feeders. That’s why veterinary authorities have ordered them to be dismantled in Washington, Maryland and Virginia.
There is some hope because the number of dead birds has started to decrease in two weeks.
