A murder on the set of “Law & Order” in New York

CRIME – When reality meets fiction. A murder took place on the set of Law & Order: Organized Crime (“New York: Organized Crime” in French). While filming for the third season has just begun, the American series, which chronicles the investigations of the New York police department, has faced a real murder.

Johnny Pizarro, a 31-year-old crew member, was in charge of security and parking for the day of filming on Tuesday, July 19, confirms the NYPD (the city police department of New York, editor’s note). He then arrived early on the scene, in the Greenpoint neighborhood of Brooklyn. At 5:15 a.m., an unknown person approached the car in which he was parked and fired several bullets into his body, hitting his head and neck in particular.

Declared dead in hospital

Johnny Pizarro succumbed to his injuries. The 31-year-old man was taken to Woodhull Hospital, before he was pronounced dead on arrival at 6 a.m., an NYPD spokesperson confirmed. The reasons for this murder are not yet known. The local authorities are considering all the hypotheses, including a possible settlement of accounts.

“We were terribly saddened and shocked to learn that one of our members was the victim of a crime and passed away,” NBC and studio Universal Television said in a statement. “We are working with local law enforcement as they continue to investigate. Our thoughts are with his family and friends and we ask that you respect their privacy during this time.”

This third season is still expected for the start of the school year on the NBC channel, but it could be postponed by several months, so as not to interfere with the ongoing investigation.

Law & Murder, whose first episode was released in 2021 on NBC in the United States, is currently accessible on 13ème rue in France. It should also be broadcast on TF1 by the end of 2022. Christopher Meloni plays the main role there, in the skin of a New York police officer taking over the head of a special unit, after a personal tragedy.
