A mother sentenced after eleven years of runaway with her daughter

After eleven years of fleeing with her daughter and her extradition from Switzerland this summer, a mother was sentenced to five years in prison by French justice on Friday for kidnapping and failing to present a child and for slanderous denunciation of her ex-husband.

Priscilla Majani, 48, was sentenced by the criminal court of Toulon to the same sentences already pronounced against her in 2015 and 2016, while she was on the run, i.e. two years of imprisonment for slanderous denunciation and three years of imprisonment with civil deprivation and parental right of non-representation of the child. These two judgments concerning two distinct cases can be combined.

Disappeared since 2011

In his indictment, the prosecutor’s representative, Dominique Mirkovic, had asked for the conviction of “a manipulative mother, who hatched a plot against her father”, rejecting the defensive thesis of “a mother who was simply worried, who tried to protect his son.

Priscilla Majani had disappeared with her five-year-old daughter in 2011, in the context of a strong “marital conflict”, recognized by all parties, around the custody of the child, after accusing the father of rape and sexual assault on his daughter. This complaint had been closed without further action. The defendant had finally been extradited in August from Switzerland, where she had been arrested a few months earlier after a trivial traffic check.
