A mother: Medical emergency closed in Val Brembana, I traveled 74 kilometers for the sick certificate

The complaint is one fifty-year-old from San Giovanni Bianco. Operated on one eye on the morning of Thursday 31 October in Seriatehe needed a sick note for work. She didn’t ask directly at the hospital but, when she got home, she tried to contact her GP. Since it was a day before a holiday, however, no response. So she turned to the former Medical Guard (now Continuity of Care) by calling the single number.

But after more than one phone call she had to resign herself to the idea that in the Brembana valley, it is Thursday 31st October it was Friday 1 November, no Continuity of Care office was active and she would have had to go to Albino to get her sick certificate. He also tried al Emergency room of the San Giovanni Bianco hospital but here, what made her give up was the certain long wait she would have had to wait before the visit with the doctor. Having arrived in code white (therefore probably also with the obligation to pay for the visit) she was in the queue of the (many) patients who were in the emergency room that morning.

So, on Friday morning November 1st, she drove the car alone, despite having had an operation on one eye, and reached Albino to have her illness certificate issued. “It’s a shame – says the lady – that in the whole valley there isn’t a Continuity of Care doctor for two days”.
