A New York mother is accused of driving the wrong way on a highway and causing a crash that killed her 9-year-old son, even though she did not have a license.
Kerri Bedrick was under the influence of drugs at the time of the events, according to information from ABC News. This is believed to be the cause of four accidents that occurred Thursday morning in Suffolk County, Long Island.
Her son, Eli Henrys, was in the back seat of his mother’s SUV when he died.
“To give you an idea of the impact, the engine of the wrong vehicle was thrown into the woods a short distance from the time of the accident,” New York State Police Chief Stephen Udice said at a news conference.
Kerri Bedrick has been charged with several drug crimes. Her charges included criminal possession of a controlled substance, methamphetamine, and driving while intoxicated, endangering the welfare of a child and operating a vehicle without a license.
The woman pleaded not guilty and will be back in front of the judge on August 27.
