A mother denies the death of her baby due to medical negligence in Holguin

A young Cuban woman went to the independent media to deny that her son, who was only 20 days old, died due to medical negligence in one of the hospitals in the province of Holguin , showing again the unfortunate state in which the self-proclaimed. “Medical power” is discovered.

The complaining mother was identified as Arlety González, a resident of Reparto Negrito in the town of Antilla, who told CubaNet that the events took place on January 24, shortly after her child became ill.

González said that around 6:00 a.m., she went with her son to the hospital, and when she arrived, a nurse took the little one. The woman says she did not hear from her child until 12 hours later, when she saw him being loaded into an ambulance.

“All I saw was that the doctors came and went and none of them told me anything,” he said.

Likewise, she said that the nurse in the ambulance did not want to let her in, but the mother meant that she had no other choice.

“The nurse in the ambulance didn’t want to take me in with her because she said I couldn’t go. But well, I had a fight there with her and I got into the ambulance,” he said.

According to the complaint, the child suffered a negative effect of the antibiotic Rosefín during transport, which caused a heart attack and seizure. Despite this, the minor managed to reach the hospital alive, but his condition did not improve.

In the second hospital, the woman had to wait again without getting any information about her son, until the nurses came to her to tell her that “if she wanted to see him alive,” she had to go into the room with him, as they were she would not allow her more than half an hour of life.

The woman did not receive any further information, but her statement indicates that it was a bacterial infection that occurred shortly after the adverse effects of the antibiotic, which eventually cost her her life.

“It was like that for three days. El Rosefín gave him a bad reaction and caught bacteria,” he said.

The woman pointed out that after the death of the minor, her family went through humiliating times, because the body of the minor was not moved from the room due to the lack of stretcher bearers. González says that the child died early in the morning, but that he stayed in the room until noon.

She was the only mother who ended up taking the child’s small body to the morgue, but her pain did not end there, because she had several obstacles to see him at home.

“Because he was a baby and he didn’t have permission, the doctor told me to get the idea that he wasn’t there. He was never there,” said the injured mother, pointing out that the authorities tried to prevent her from taking her son’s body home to say goodbye.

In that sense, she pointed out that they even brought the red berets to remove her body, which she prevented.

“I stayed there and told them they had to give me my child because that was my baby. Because even though he was dead, that was my son,” he said.

The neglect revealed the poor state of the Health System in the Island, which Miguel Ángel Ruano, president of the Free Medical Association of Cuba, believes is the result of the large number of young people and health professionals, who they leave the Island in search. something better.

The latter became evident last week, when the authorities of Villa Clara They issued an emergency call for nursing because of the shortage of staff in hospitals.
