A mosque imam hacked by his congregation while leading prayers, here is the chronology

KOMPAS.com – One mosque imam in Tanjung Rancing Village, Kayuagung District, Ogan Komering Ilir, South Sumatra, named Muhammad Arif (61), his congregation with the initials M (49) was hacked while leading the maghrib prayer, Friday (11/9/2020).

As a result, the victim suffered a severe stab wound on the right side of the face and had to be rushed to a hospital in Palembang.

After stabbing the victim, the perpetrator immediately ran to one of the residents’ houses.

The perpetrator was successfully secured by a TNI member with the help of residents. To avoid the residents’ emotions, M was taken to the Kayuagung Police Headquarters.

From information obtained by residents, the incident started with the perpetrator who was offended by the victim because he was asked to hand over the key to the charity box that had been there for a long time.

The victim asked that the key be handed over to the mosque flag.

“I, together with the victim, the mosque management, have even been in charge of the mosque in the charity box for about 4 years,” said M. TribunSumsel.com.

His annoyance started when the victim suddenly took the key to the charity box from him while spitting out words.

“He told me, ‘You don’t need to be in the lock of the charity box anymore.’ Because he was very offended, he finally slashed him while he was praying evening prayer twice,” he said.

Not accepting the incident, one of the victims’ families named Efrohayati reported the incident to the Kayuagung Police Headquarters.

Efrohayati said, he did not expect the incident experienced by his brother-in-law. The reason is that the perpetrator and the victim know each other well.

In fact, the perpetrator often drove his brother’s vehicle when going somewhere.

“I did not expect the incident that happened to my sister-in-law. I am here to make a report,” he said.

Meanwhile, Kapolres Ogan Komering Ilir AKBP Alamsyah Pelupessy confirmed the information about the incident.

Alamsyah said that the perpetrator is currently under investigation.
