C‘is this Wednesday, July 1 that the summer sales should have started … if the coronavirus had not come to disrupt trade and consumption habits. A month and a half ago, the House voted to postpone this summer meeting to August. The goal ? Give more time to non-food traders, deprived of activities by confinement between March 18 and May 11, to sell their goods with unchanged margins and thus rebuild a semblance of financial health. Ministers Nathalie Muylle of the Economy and Denis Ducarme of the Independents applauded. The Union of the middle classes (UCM), its Flemish alter ego Unizo or the Neutral Syndicate for Independents (SNI) declared victory, they, the majority of whose members demanded this month’s respite without massacred prices.
