In this room, from the coming school year, the children of all classes of the single-stream school will have the additional opportunity to deepen, repeat and consolidate lesson content at their own pace, but also to independently work on learning content from higher grades. Special teaching aids from Montessori pedagogy are used for this.
“We have been thinking for a long time about how we can further improve our pedagogical concept. Our goal is to support children with learning difficulties in the best possible way, as well as to challenge children who are strong learners and particularly inquisitive and give them a chance to develop their potential as best as possible. The materials and approaches of Montessori pedagogy offer ideal conditions for this,” explains headmistress Anna Molderings. It was a long way from the idea to implementation. “Funding had to be applied for to procure learning materials, a room usage concept for the best possible learning environment was drawn up, and last but not least, all colleagues must of course deal with and identify with Maria Montessori’s pedagogical guiding principles,” explains Molderings. “Fortunately, we all work hand in hand here, the entire staff got involved.” Thus, a few weeks before the end of the current school year, the establishment of the new Montessori room can begin.

A teacher at the school is currently completing two years of extra-occupational training to become a recognized Montessori teacher. “Here we were really lucky that Amelie Boersma was able to ‘snag’ a place for this very coveted and much sought-after further training course at short notice,” says the headmistress happily.

After the summer holidays, the additional Montessori offer will be used at the school. On the one hand, it is planned to instruct children with special needs or challenges selected by the class teachers in the context of special additional lessons in the Montessori room, on the other hand there should be times in each class as part of the regular timetable when the children can study the Montessori materials with their class teacher Use to deepen learning content. “It is important to us that all children in our school benefit from the new concept – the strong, the weak, and everyone else. Because that is what ultimately defines our additional Montessori offer: to make learning easier for every child through new impulses and materials as well as a large degree of self-determination,” summarizes Molderings.
