A modern swimming pool is to be added behind Lužánky

Now the city management was considering another funding option, and councilors agreed to apply for a grant from the National Sports Agency’s program. Without outside help, the sports ground could not have been created.

“The construction of the swimming pool is one of the city’s strategic projects and the largest sports investment this year. We are already looking for a contractor for its construction and we have also examined other financing options, “said Mayor Markéta Vaňková (ODS).

“In December, the National Sports Agency announced a call for a program aimed at supporting the construction of sports infrastructure in the years 2020 to 2024. The project of a new swimming pool behind Lužánky meets the binding standards and parameters set out in the call. At the meeting of the Brno City Council, we therefore agreed to submit an application for a subsidy, which could reach the amount of ninety million crowns, “the mayor added.

The city expects to cover the remaining costs from its budget. The price of construction will be known after the selection of the contractor. “International swimming competitions will be able to take place behind Lužánky in the new swimming pool. Another reason for the construction is the lack of swimming areas in Brno. Due to this, the demand for organized swimming or public swimming is not satisfied. At the same time, Brno lacks enough pools for compulsory school swimming training. The one behind Lužánky will have eight full-fledged tracks with a width of 2.5 meters. In addition, a 16-meter swimming pool for children will be created for swimming lessons, “added Deputy Mayor Petr Hladík (KDU-ČSL).

The new swimming pool will be created in the area below the unused park at the main entrance to the building, where in the past there was a school 16-meter swimming pool and a rowing machine.
“We anticipate that the existing technologies that already operate behind Lužánky will be used for its operation. Our goal is to build a swimming pool suitable for swimming competitions, water polo matches, heats at international competitions, etc. The dimensions have been adjusted to meet the rules of the International Swimming Federation. At the same time, it will certainly be appreciated by the public, the demand for swimming in Brno is great, “said Jaroslav Suchý (KDU-ČSL), a councilor for sports.

As part of the construction, the entrance areas of the current swimming pool, terrace and partly also its facilities will be reconstructed. The premises will be barrier-free and there will be a grandstand for 200 people in the new swimming pool.
