In four years, a modern multifunctional cultural center has been built in Ulbroka, Stopiņi region. There will be several municipal institutions, but the biggest joy is the concert hall, which will allow high-class artists to perform without sound. Such concerts will also earn at least part of the 12 million euros spent on the construction and furnishing of the center.
It is the fulfillment of our dreams and the complete opposite of the place where cultural events took place so far. This is what the curators of the cultural life of the region say about the almost 5,000 square meter cultural center in Stopiņi.
“We had one small herb for both rehearsals and events. Now the volume is large, which our amateur art groups have been waiting for for a long time, and also that we will now be able to invite more professional artists, because we have the appropriate stages and equipment, ”emphasized Vita Pinne, the head of the cultural center.
Amateur art groups will now have access not only to decent changing rooms, but also to a mirror hall, which is especially important for dance groups.
“The biggest benefit is that we will finally be able to work several teams at the same time. There will no longer be the previous version, when we only had one hall to share, and many groups also tried outside the cultural center, ”said Aiga Medne, the leader of the middle-generation dance group“ Stopiņš ”.
The large building will also house a library, a registry office and a county history museum, while cultural lovers will be welcomed in two event halls. Special is the large hall with 480 seats. Five rows of chairs can be quickly adapted to both the larger group of artists and the sanitary requirements of Covid-19. However, the most important is the acoustics of the hall, which was created with the help of acoustician Jānis Tālbergs.
The cost of the new cultural center is 12 million euros, which the municipality has found in its budget, but part of it is a 30-year loan to the Treasury.
“Every year the population of us grows. We are able to support ourselves and provide other municipalities. As we have certainly not deprived anyone of anything, we live on our own, and the winners will certainly be the inhabitants of a much wider region, ”said Vita Paulāne (Association of Latvian Regions), the chairwoman of Stopiņi County Council.
In the population survey, the new cultural institution was named “Pearl of Ulbroka”.
Although there are also people who believe that taxpayers’ money could have been better spent, but they do not want to express their opinion loudly, others are looking forward to seeing what has been built with their own eyes.
The new cultural institution will open its doors to amateur groups as early as next week, and an opening concert is scheduled for the end of September.
