Although resigned, the Minister of Justice is making one last attempt to oust Chief Prosecutor Ivan Geshev.
“Regarding the responsibility of the Attorney General, I am taking all possible legal steps. In the scheduled plenary session of the SJC on Thursday at 9:30, I have included as the first item on the agenda a substantive examination of my proposal for his early release and of Prof. Stoilov”, he said in the program “In focus with Lora Krumova” on Nova TV the resigned Minister of Justice, Nadezhda Yordanova.
“The JOSI case will be considered only partially, unfortunately, by the SJC. Only those actions and inactions of the chief prosecutor after his election in this capacity will be examined,” Yordanova specified. She expressed concerns that he will not touch to a large extent the essence of what kind of prosecutor general we owe Bulgaria, whether Geshev meets the constitutional standards. “I am a realist, it is possible that the whole debate will turn into dust in the eyes of the people, but it will still be a step forward”.
Yordanova refused to answer the question of whether she will be nominated for Minister of Justice and in the Asen Vassilev cabinet. “Colleagues from DB and PP have a sufficiently rich set of people with skills and character who could cope with the tasks”, said the minister in resignation.
According to her, the main mistake of the quadruple coalition was that an effective mechanism for making decisions and implementing them was not established. For a second mistake, he pointed out the speed with which things happened. “Borisov’s arrest is a decision of the Minister of the Interior. I, as the Minister of Justice, have no authority in this, and I learned from the media,” Yordanova pointed out in response to whether this arrest was a mistake.
She added that she does not support and considers any arrest that does not comply with the law to be incorrect. “If the respective arrests are found to be illegal by an effective decision, the relevant analyzes must be made and similar practices must not be allowed, no matter who.”
Currently, going to early elections creates many risks, Yordanova also pointed out.
“The formula for appearing in the upcoming possible elections of both the DB and the PP is yet to be discussed. Such talks have not yet taken place. We hear our sympathizers calling for a general appearance. So, in any case, this issue will be very seriously discussed in our internal bodies and with our partners,” said Nadezhda Yordanova.
