A military plane crashed in a residential area in the city of Yeisk in southern Russia, killing at least four people and injuring 25 others.
A condominium caught fire and rescues intervened on the spot.
The Russian Defense Ministry said a SU-34 was on a training flight when one of its engines caught fire.
The pilots had parachuted before the collision, the ministry said.
The statement quoted one of the pilots as saying that the cause of the accident was a fire in one of the engines during takeoff and the plane’s fuel caught fire in the courtyard of a residential building, where the plane crashed.
The governor of the Krasnodar region, where the city of Yesk is located, said in a Russian-language Telegram post that the region’s firefighters were fighting the flames.
According to local media, the fire surrounded five floors of the building and damaged several apartments.
The Kremlin has instructed local and national authorities to provide all necessary aid to those affected by the fire, TASS reported.
Russian authorities said they opened a criminal investigation file and sent investigators to the site, Reuters news agency reported.
Yeisk faces the area occupied by Russian forces in southern Ukraine, separated from it by the Sea of Azov.
