Princess Elisabeth in the footsteps of her father, King Philippe. After an international baccalaureate in Wales that she finishes in a few days, she will join the Royal Military School as of the next school year. Created by his grandfather Léopold first in 1934 to fight the Dutch and offer officers training worthy of the name, the establishment trains army executives. It was an almost obligatory passage for Princess Elisabeth who, as future queen of the Belgians, will at the same time become head of the armies.
Initiation to shooting, discipline and mathematics …
As of August 31, Elisabeth will join the 160th promotion “social and military sciences” of the Royal School to follow a training articulated around 4 pillars. “To begin, there is first the military component with 4 weeks in Elsenborn for an introduction to defense techniques, handling weapons, military discipline. Then there is the pillar says “characteristic”, that is to say that she will be trained in defense values“explains General-Major Claes, the school’s rector. The physical aspect is not forgotten. It will consist of 5 hours of sports per week on average. Finally, the academic aspect will be made up of more classic courses such as math or science.
No entrance exam, no remuneration!
Unlike other students, she will not have to take an entrance exam because in principle she will only stay there for one year. After which, she should pursue civilian university studies. Suddenly, she will not receive any salary unlike other student officers who during their schooling are paid. She will stay in the boarding school where the rector ensures that she will not receive any preferential treatment. She will end the year not by attending the parade on July 21 but by marching!
