On Wednesday, a migrant lost his foot while trying to board a freight train that was reaching the port of Calais.
According to La Voix du Nord, the wheels of the train crushed the feet of the young man. The other foot was also injured.
The victim was transferred to Calais hospital. Its vital prognosis is not engaged.
“It emerges from the first investigations that a group of migrants tried to board a moving freight train”, reported for his part the public prosecutor in Boulogne-sur-Mer, Pascal Marconville.
Despite the dismantling of the Calais jungle in 2016, hundreds of migrants remain permanently in the city or its surroundings. They still hope to reach the British Isles, either by sea or through the Channel Tunnel, often at the risk of their lives.
