GRANADA, 7 (PRESS EUROPE)
The exhibition ‘OPS, El Roto, Rábago: A Microhistory of the World’ closes its doors this Sunday at the José Guerrero Contemporary Art Center in Granada, dependent on the Provincial Council. This is a journey through the artistic career of satirical cartoonist and cartoonist Andrs Rábago through his three eternals: OPS, El Roto and Rábago.
The exhibition contains the Dadaist gaze of OPS, which records in its drawings the unconscious of Francoism with a “hard and raw” vision close to black humour, as specified in a press release from the provincial body.
In general, the works represent the recurring motifs in Andrs Rábago’s production (family, birds, surveillance, figure of the double, wars, art, hats, etc.) and the connections between the three aspects of the artist. Themes appear identically ordered on each floor, but with different images that allow them to be explored, expanded or contrasted.
Regarding his work, Andrs Rbago indicated that he “was lucky enough to be able to work in complete freedom”. “I’ve never had any coercion or direction from the media at the places I’ve worked and I wouldn’t even have accepted it; looking back on it, the scale of all the work done makes my head spin a bit,” he indicated.
