A meteorologist warns of the three autonomous communities where storms will arrive this weekend – Poniendo las calles

The Balearic Islands are trying to recover from the DANA of last week, which caused 416 incidents related to rain and storms since the meteorological episode began. In the coming days, the focus could move to the peninsula and the coasts of the South and East of the peninsula, as warned by the meteorologist of eltiempo.es, Marta Almarcha, in Poniendo las Calles.

Various weather agencies warned of this phenomenon days before it occurred, and warned that, due to the extreme temperatures of the Mediterranean Sea, any predictions made with weather models must be followed with special attention due to the changes that may occur.

The difference between a DANA and a normal storm is that it is a local-scale storm. A storm is produced by clouds of great vertical development, called cumulonimbus, in which visible atmospheric electrical discharges occur.

The cloud systems that generate normal storms generally have an area of approximately 10 square kilometres and a duration of one hour. A DANA favours the formation of storms, but these can appear without the formation of the low pressure system that manifests itself mainly in the middle and upper layers of the troposphere.

Storms

Marta Almarcha explains that “we have started the week with more stability and, although we are still keeping an eye on the storms, we do not expect them to be as strong as those left by the last DANA”. Specifically, “this Tuesday we have a front moving through the north of the peninsula that will bring a cooler atmosphere and precipitation”.

What areas will they move through? “Across the north of Galicia, Asturias, Cantabria and finally, the Basque Country,” warns Marta Almarcha from eltiempo.es: “In addition, this afternoon we expect the cloudiness to grow in the eastern interior of the peninsula.” So it is very likely that you will see clouds during the day.

Furthermore, Marta Almarcha points out that this cloudiness “could bring showers and storms in the mountains of eastern Andalusia, inland Murcia, the Valencian Community and without ruling out Albacete”: “In the rest, more stable weather, with strong trade winds in the Canary Islands and heat, especially inland and in the south.”

As for temperatures, “today’s maximum temperatures will reach 40 degrees in Badajoz, 39 degrees in Córdoba, 38 degrees in Ciudad Real, 36 degrees in Madrid, 33 degrees in Valladolid.” If we look to the north, they will be lower: “27 degrees in Bilbao, 24 degrees in Santander and up to 23 degrees in A Coruña.” From this Wednesday, the situation may become more complicated again.

A meteorologist warns that they will reach several coastal areas

“For the rest of the week we will be affected by the passage of several troughs of the sea that will not be very strong, but enough to cause new storms in the afternoons,” explains Marta Almarcha from eltiempo.es, “on Wednesday they could affect central areas such as Castilla-La Mancha and Madrid.”

Looking ahead to Thursday and Friday, “they could affect the East as well as the Valencian Community, Aragon or Catalonia.” The situation for the weekend is more worrying: “It is possible that they will spread to more areas and be stronger.” Regarding temperatures, they expect “some increases until Thursday with more intense heat in the centre and south of the peninsula.”
