The memorandum was signed by the Latvian Minister of Transport Tālis Linkaits (JKP), the Estonian Minister of Economy, the Lithuanian Minister of Transport and Communications, as well as the Polish Minister of Digital Affairs.
The memorandum emphasizes the importance of closer co-operation between the Baltic States and Poland in achieving the goals of sustainable mobility, improving road safety and introducing innovations.
The countries agreed to continue cooperation in the intergovernmental working group established in Riga on March 7, 2019 to promote the goals of 5G and connected automated mobility in the North Sea-Baltic corridor through the European Union’s multiannual financial framework 2021-2027.
The signing of the memorandum confirms the joint roadmap for the construction of the Via Baltica as a 5G and a connected and automated driving corridor, agreed by the Intergovernmental Working Group on 28 November 2019, and supports the further development of the roadmap, setting out a timetable for specific commitments and efforts. provided for in this document.
The Ministry of Transport pointed out that the establishment of 5G corridors on transport arteries is a step towards achieving the goals of the European Gigabit Society, which envisages ensuring 5G coverage on major land arteries and major cities by 2025.
