Musician from the famous Lunetic band Václav Jelínek was in a fatal accident. When he returned from the concert, he knocked down a pedestrian on the highway, who subsequently died. According to the police, Jelínek was to inhale up to 0.4 per mille and lose his driver’s license. His wife, who was also there, also claims that the accident could not be prevented. In addition, her husband behaved like a hero. He hurried to the aided man, risking his own life on the highway.
The accident happened on Saturday evening on the D10 motorway near Mladá Boleslav. Jelínek and his wife Marcela were about to return from a Leoš Mareš concert when a 45-year-old man ran into his way. According to Marcela, the collision could not be prevented. “He was a black-clad man of UK descent who jumped under Vasek’s wheels. He was not visible at all,” Jelínek’s co-driver described the accident.
“It was a moment and Vašek pulled the steering wheel out of mind, otherwise if we picked it up directly, it would fly into the cab, for example, and that could be the end of us,” she added. Her statement was published by the band’s manager Zdeněk Obhlídal on the Lunetic – comeback Facebook page.
“Of course, Vašek is overwhelmed by this situation and protects the privacy of both himself and the whole family,” said Obhlídal. According to his wife, Jelínek kept a cool head and stopped after the crash and ran back to the scene of the accident. He allegedly pulled him off the road all by himself and revived him until the rescuers arrived.
“Otherwise, everyone watched and did nothing. Only Vašek cared, dragged the injured person to the side of the road, even though he risked his life among passing cars. It is a heroic act for me and I think that few would behave like this,” Marcela said. The injured man died despite this help.
According to the police, he was crossing the highway and first was hit by a car in the left lane, then by another car in the right lane. “The driver’s result was negative. We measured values up to 0.4 per mille for the driver during repeated breath tests. We took our driver’s license on the spot“she said after the accident CNN Prima News police spokeswoman Vlasta Suchánková.
A blood alcohol level of 0.4 per mille corresponds to drinking one large beer or two deciliters of wine. The police continue to deal with the accident.
