Kursk State Medical University has developed a drug that can shorten the recovery process of patients with COVID-19 by several days.
According to Leonid Yampolsky, Associate Professor of the Department of General and Bioorganic Chemistry of the KSMU, the new drug helps to quickly get rid of breathing and lung problems typical for those infected with coronavirus.
As told TASS scientist, the development of drugs against influenza and ARVI began at the university five years ago, a patent was received. And when the coronavirus infection occurred, the research team modified the structure of the drug.
– The formula of the drug includes inexpensive substances, with a certain combination, a synergistic effect occurs. It is a complex of relatively simple inorganic and organic molecules, structurally simple. As the main one – complex metal complexes, – said the representative of the university.
Leonid Yampolsky explained that depending on the general condition of the patient with coronavirus the use of the developed drug can shorten the healing process from two days to five days. The body temperature decreases, shortness of breath decreases, the effectiveness is noted with difficulty breathing, cytokine storm. In addition, the developed substance can be used for prophylaxis – scientists recommend impregnating a medical mask with it, thus maintaining a constant concentration of the drug on the mucous membrane.
