A recent medical study found evidence that people recovering from the disease are more likely to suffer from heart problems in the future, despite the fact that it has passed for a long time.
Scientists participating in the study, which was conducted at the University of Washington, said that some Covid-19 recoveries may suffer from symptoms of heart problems, such as shortness of breath, chest pain and heart palpitations, according to a report by the “Wall Street Journal”.
In some cases, inflammation of the heart muscle and cardiac arrest can occur, which may lead to serious problems in the future among those recovering, including arrhythmias and heart failure.
The researchers also believed that the virus can cause injury and inflammation of the heart muscle in two ways, the first is due to an intense immune reaction against the virus, or through the virus invading the heart tissue that contains proteins known as ACE2 receptors that the virus uses to attack cells.
The research team detected the coronavirus attacking heart muscle cells implanted in the laboratory and multiplying inside them, which weakens their ability to contract and conduct electrical signals necessary to regulate the heartbeat, which ultimately leads to the death of these cells.
In addition, the researchers concluded that myocardial complications may be long-term in patients recovering from this disease.
While the results of the study are still “preliminary” and need more research, according to the newspaper.
It is noteworthy that, as of Monday, the world had recorded more than a million deaths from the new Corona virus since its first appearance in China in late December, including 28.953 Arabs from 20 countries, in which more than one million and 504 thousand infections occurred, while the number of infections recorded in the world exceeded 33 million injuries, and more than 24 million recoveries.
