Sassari In the galaxy of service stations they are the minority but the so-called white pumps, i.e. without the brand of the fuel giants, have grown exponentially over the years. And it is precisely among them that we found the only manager in favor of average prices.
Is called Roberto Chessa and its system”Easy Fuel” is located in the Pip area of Sorso. «I think this thing about average prices is stupid, in the sense that it doesn’t achieve the objective it sets itself – says the manager of the Easy Fuel station -. If I’m honest, it’s a gimmick that works in favor of white pumps like ours. Displaying the average price creates problems for large companies, because it allows people to understand who is cheating on consumers. As far as we are concerned, however, the average prices highlight even more how advantageous it is to supply from us”.
The entrepreneur from Sorso sees the concept behind average prices favorably but the bureaucratic process behind it a little less. «Of course, if there wasn’t the additional work of having to display the sign every day it would be better – continues the manager -. And then, even on this point, the ministry is never punctual. There are days when the communication does not arrive by 8.30, and therefore sometimes we are forced to keep the previous day’s prices until 9. I mean, the ministry forces us to comply and then it is not punctual. This is not good, and perhaps exposes us to sanctions for faults that are not ours.”
Roberto Chessa expands the discussion to the quality of the fuel that is distributed on the island. «I remember that for a period of time the detractors told us that the white pumps had poorer fuel – continues the manager of Easy Fuel – which was the reason why they could charge a lower price. All bullshit. I don’t know if everyone knows about it, but the petrol distributed in Sardinia is the same for all service stations, of any brand.”
But even if petrol is the same for everyone, prices are a little less so. Even when considering petrol stations that are located in the same city, even within an inch of each other. «On the island – adds Chessa – there are three fuel depots in Porto Torres, Oristano and Cagliari. We get our supplies from Porto Torres, obviously, and everyone else in the north of the island does the same. However, the basin is unique. So in a given territory the white pumps have the exact same fuel but with a lower price, among other things also leaving us a higher margin. This is because we have one less step in the supply chain, there is one less intermediary, unlike what happens with the big brands.” (s.sant.)
