Five men were shot dead and another six were wounded by bullets this Saturday in the city of Fortaleza (northeast of Brazil), after being attacked by a group of hooded men who broke into the place where they were gathered celebrating Christmas, official sources reported .
The events occurred at dawn this Saturday on a soccer field in the Sapiranga neighborhood where, according to testimonies told to the Police, the suspects had dispersed several people and families who were fraternizing in the streets of that community hours before.
According to what was reported by the authorities, the suspects fled in a vehicle and two motorcycles after committing the crime and the wounded were rescued by residents of the place who transferred them to a nearby hospital.
So far, three people have been detained by the police and weapons that were possibly used in the massacre have been seized.
The police pointed out that the motives for the massacre are under investigation, but according to testimonies collected by the authorities, the crime could have been caused by a dispute between criminal groups in the region, since some of the victims had convictions on their record.
With that of this Saturday, there are already seven massacres that have occurred in the state capital of Ceará this year -more than double the three that were registered in 2020-, crimes that have left a balance of 32 fatalities in 2021. EFE
