A March update to Windows 10 could cause blue death when printing

Some users Windows 10 encountered a serious bug that occurred after installing the March cumulative update. The information has appeared in various discussion forums in recent days, but this information was soon confirmed by Microsoft itself on the support site. Although this is a problem that has affected only a small group of users, its severity is relatively high. It is manifested by the infamous blue screen of death (BSOD). Versions 20H2, 2004, 1909, 1809 and even 1803 are affected. Operating systems older than Windows 10 were probably not affected by the error.-

The error only occurs in some cases when a printer is connected to the computer and the user tries to print a document from an Office application, Notepad, or another program. According to the available information, these are printers of various brands, especially Kyocera, Ricoh or Zebra. As a result, complications mainly affect business users, as these printer brands are used primarily by companies. The blue screen of death contains the “APC_INDEX_MISMATCH” error code for win32kfull.sys.

Windowslatest.com described the story of one of the readers who was to encounter an error in the company where he works. “This update appears to cause blue screens when printing with Kyocera Universal Print drivers. (…) We have already confirmed at least 20 cases from four different clients in just one hour, “ said. More posts can be found at Income and other platforms. Although users have tried various procedures, the only reliable solution has been to uninstall the faulty update. Recall that Microsoft distributes it as an automatic security update, so it installs on many computers without user confirmation.-

Microsoft already knows about the problem, but has not yet come up with a clear solution. “After you install this update, you may receive a blue-screen APC_INDEX_MISMATCH error message when you try to print APC_INDEX_MISMATCH on certain printers in some applications,” the support site says, adding: “We are currently working to investigate the information and will provide you with an update as more information becomes available.”
