A man from Montreal, USA, who won a $36.5 million lottery jackpot in October, admitted that he returned to work the very next Monday after winning.
Pierre Richer, who is in his 60s, has no plans to retire even after winning Lotto-Max on October 6, lottery operator Loto-Québec said in a press release.
Richer bought the lucky ticket while going to the grocery store for cake, Canada’s Global News reports. “I wasn’t going to spend on lottery tickets this week,” Richer said. “However, I asked for two Lotto-Max tickets at the counter and that was it. It cost me ten dollars.”
According to Loto-Québec, Richer’s wife and daughter were the ones who spotted the win. When he was told the news, Richer said he was “a little bit happy,” but his reaction wasn’t ecstatic. “I left the room and that was it,” he told Global News.
“I feel the same as before,” he said after receiving the huge lottery check. “Nothing has changed,” Richer says, working as a driver for a catering company, according to CTV News. “I just can’t not go to work because without me there’s just no delivery,” Richer told CTV News.
Richer said he wanted to buy a new house and car, and treat his family to a vacation. “I’m not a traveling person, so I’ll let my wife do it,” he said.
According to Loto-Québec, the grocery store that sold the winning ticket will receive a one percent commission of $365,000 (about €334,000).
