A man threw a cake against the Mona Lisa, at the Louvre- Corriere.it

The author of the gesture was immediately blocked: the glass case that protects the painting avoided damage. Leonardo’s masterpiece was repeatedly the target of rash gestures (and in 1911 it was stolen)

The Gioconda from Leonardo da Vinci was target of a van deed
dalico: a visitor to the Louvre managed to smear the most famous masterpiece of the history of painting with a cake.

However, the glass that protects the painting prevented the canvas from being damaged. The security guards and the police have immediately blocked the author of the gesture, which took place under the eyes of the visitors who at that moment crowded the rooms of the Parisian museum. The latter immediately spread images and videos of the incident on twitter and other social networks.

The vandal approached the painting in a wheelchairhe also wore a wig to disguise himself.

Hidden under his jacket he had what must have been a cake or whatever a dessert with cream: once a short distance from the “Gioconda” the man – whose identity was not disclosed – threw it against the glass that protects the painting.

Precisely because of its notoriety and the fact of being universally known symbolLeonardo’s masterpiece has been the target of attacks several times: in 2009 a visitor threw a teacup at him which crashed against the glass case. In the 50s on two occasions the Mona Lisa was slightly damaged by two attackers who on several occasions threw towards the painting some acid and a stone.

The most sensational episode, however, dates back to 1911 when an Italian immigrant in France, Vincenzo Peruggia, managed to steal the canvas hiding it under his jacket and taking it to Italy. Peruggia fi arrested when he tried to resell the Mona Lisa to an antiquarian in Florence.
