An inmate of the La Talaudière penitentiary center (Loire) was indicted on Friday for the bare-handed murder of his co-inmate, we learned on Sunday from a judicial source. “The surprising explanations given by this man to explain his outburst of violence led us to wonder about his mental state,” André Merle, the deputy prosecutor of Saint-Etienne, told AFP, confirming the information from the regional newspaper Progress.
The magistrate limited himself to specifying that the doctor who examined this 29-year-old, accused of murder and taken back to prison, had considered his conditions “compatible with police custody”.
The victim was 25 years old
The 25-year-old victim died on Thursday at the Saint-Etienne university hospital following the blows received during the previous night. Both were in their cell in the parole section of the La Talaudière prison when the attack took place.
Supervisors who were in another building were alerted by CCTV images. The younger of the two was unconscious when they got there.
