A man spilled gasoline and set fire to a police station in Belarus

“I was approaching the intersection where the police building is located. In front of her were fire trucks and police officers. A man was lying on the ground, a rag or clothes burning next to him. At first I thought it was a dummy, but then I noticed the man moving. It was covered with a kind of white powder. Then two ambulances arrived and the men were taken away, “a witness described to the server.

The man allegedly did not shout any passwords before he set himself on fire. Without a word, he spilled gasoline and set it on fire. One of the policemen extinguished him with a fire extinguisher.

The reasons that led the men to this dramatic act are not yet known. His identity is also ascertained. There are reports on many social networks that the man burned himself in protest of the security forces’ actions against the opposition.

Protests erupted in Belarus over the disputed 9 August presidential election, after which the authorities declared incumbent President Alexander Lukashenko the clear winner. The opposition considers it a fraud, and the EU did not recognize the election result. Lukashenko reportedly won 80 percent of the vote with an 80 percent turnout.
