A man was shot dead after injuring a police officer, Saturday March 12, on the quay of the Old Port in front of the town hall of Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône), learned franceinfo from a police source. According to this same source,an individual burst in with a knife”. He first received a Flash-ball shot but managed to injure a policeman in the wrist. He was then shot dead, according to another police source at franceinfo. The scene took place at a donation collection point for Ukraine. No link has yet been established between the two events.
Traveling to Marseille, the Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, reported a man “aggressive and extremely violent”. After resorting to “several types of intermediate weapons”these latter “fired and arrested this person”.
The attacker, of French nationality, was 58 years old, specifies a judicial source to franceinfo. He wasn’t “not known to the police”according to the Minister of the Interior, who brought his “support” to the officers involved and assured that the injured officer was okay. “Event ended Quai du Port in Marseille”tweeted the police chief of Bouches-du-Rhône, asking the inhabitants to“avoid the area”.
