A man falls from a pleasure yacht near Belt-Schutsloot and dies

During a boat trip on the Belterwijde in northern Overijssel this morning, a passenger on a pleasure yacht fell overboard and drowned. The victim was found in the water an hour later by a diver from the fire brigade and was brought ashore near the town of Belt-Schutsloot.

The first report about the incident came at 8:30 am this morning. A boater on the lake saw someone fall off the boat, according to reports Eastern RTV. When he saw the victim disappear under the water, he called 112.

The fire brigade and the police began a major search of the water, using a sonar boat and divers.

The police are still investigating the cause of the drowning, but a spokesman says that they are already assuming a “fatal accident”.

The identity of the deceased man has not been released. It is also not clear if he could swim. The police took care of the woman who was on board the yacht with him this morning.
