Michael Jackson’s the estate has started legal proceedings against a man who has threatened to publish allegations about the pop star’s improper behavior, reports the Financial Times magazine.
Already in 2019, the man and four other people threatened to make public their accounts of Jackson’s inappropriate behavior, which they experienced in their own childhood. In 2020, the estate quietly settled the matter with all parties. The estate made a contract with them worth 16.5 million dollars, after which the man and other people promised to defend Jackson’s reputation.
Now, however, the man wants to get $213 million more money from the estate, and the estate accuses him of making up previous claims. The estate tries to get damages from the man through arbitration and obliges him to comply with the agreement made in 2020.
According to the agreement, the man and four other people each received 3.3 million euros in a six-year window. In January, before the last installment was distributed, the man informed the heir that he would no longer comply with the agreement and demanded an additional payment of 213 million dollars.
The estate of Michael Jackson, who died in 2009, currently has a fortune of 3 billion dollars. Initially, the estate was saddled with debts of 500 million dollars, but the sale of Jackson’s music catalog and the success of the Broadway musical and Circue du Soleil shows turned the situation upside down. The pop star’s three children, mother and various charities will benefit from the inheritance.
