A swordsman broke into the apartment of a family with children and caused terror in Etelä Savo.
The prosecutor demands an unconditional prison sentence of at least a year and a half for the 47-year-old man for, among other things, aggravated assault and aggravated violations of domestic peace.
On a February night around four in the morning, a man broke into the extended family’s home. A man armed with a sword kicked and beat the father of the family in front of his children and spouse.
According to the prosecutor, the man also damaged the apartment’s furniture with his sword and threatened family members with murder.
In April, the district court ordered the man to a technically supervised restraining order. He didn’t follow that.

Two months later, a man armed with a gun returned to the family’s home. The man was naked despite the cold and snow. According to the prosecutor, he had two knives, two knives, two wooden staves and an air rifle with him.
At around eleven o’clock in the evening, the man was smoking outside a private house, the prosecutor says. He broke the window of the front door and tried to break in. The parents and four children were at home in the apartment at the time. They feared for their safety.

The man claims in his preliminary response to the district court that he had imagined saving his daughter from the family. She had heard her daughter’s voice inside her head saying that she was being harmed in the apartment and asking for help.
The man has no clear memories of the events. He claims he was psychotic and therefore did not act intentionally. He remembers kicking the father of the family in the calves and thigh and punching him.

However, the man denies that he knocked the father of the family to the ground or kicked him in the head. According to the man, the sword was not used in the act of violence. It was there possibly only to enhance threats or for self-defense.
According to the man, the beating of the father of the family was not a particularly brutal and cruel crime. He also doesn’t remember threatening the family’s children or the mother.
New restraining order

The man claims that he was innocent at the time of the actions, that is, he did not understand the consequences of his actions.
The prosecutor has also demanded that the district court order the man’s state of mind to be investigated.
At the end of September, the district court sentenced the man to a new, year-long restraining order against the family.
The district court of Etelä-Savo will issue a decision in the case in mid-December.
