She explained that on the night of August 9 in Jelgava, Ganību Street, as a result of a shot from a pneumatic weapon, a woman was seriously injured. Criminal proceedings have been initiated in the police for the said offense pursuant to Section 125, Paragraph two, Clause 3 of the Criminal Law, and during a set of search measures, police officers removed a pneumatic rifle and ammunition during an authorized search on 13 August. On the same day, the police detained two men, who on August 14 were sentenced by the Zemgale District Court to a security measure.
An investigation revealed that one of the detained men, who is currently in custody, was shot from a pneumatic weapon. The other man is released from custody. The investigation is ongoing.
Police officers thank the population, whose information contributed to the success of the investigation.
Such an offense is punishable by imprisonment for a term of two to ten years and probation for up to three years or without probation. The amount of the penalty will be determined by the court.
