A man was arrested on Friday morning in front of an elementary school in Rosny-sous-Bois (Seine-Saint-Denis), while he was armed with a cutter and made threatening remarks especially towards children.

The individual was arrested, before entering class, around 8:40 am in front of the Center elementary school in Rosny-sous-Bois, said a police source, specifying that there were no injuries.
He was mounted on a monument to the dead located right next to the school, and “addressed the crowd indiscriminately on the monument to the dead”, said the Bobigny prosecutor’s office. No terrorist comments were made, he said.
Reinforced surveillance near schools
“I salute the efficiency of the police and our video surveillance system which enabled his rapid arrest. The individual is in custody. The investigation is ongoing,” the mayor said on Facebook LR Jean-Paul Fauconnet.
On Twitter, the Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, also praised “the coolness and the dynamism of the police force which intervened very quickly to arrest a dangerous individual”.

Schools have been the subject of increased surveillance since the assassination of Samuel Paty on October 16, near his college in Conflans-Saint-Honorine (Yvelines) and the resurgence of the terrorist threat in France.
