Expectation was in the air this Wednesday night, as spectators entered the Municipal Theater. The San Andrés Mayor University Choir was preparing for an unprecedented Lyric Gala, and the musicians sharpened their voices, ready to dazzle the public.

At the heart of this event was Melissa Herrera, Head of the Culture and Art Division of the UMSA, who shared details about the presentation that promised to be, without a doubt, a delight for music lovers.

With a twinkle in her eye, Melissa told us about the preparations. “Today is the presentation of the Lyric Gala with our special guest, Janette Dornellas, who arrives from Brazil,” he explained.

The excitement in his voice was contagious. To the critical eye, the stage promised a formidable spectacle, with 75 voices on stage involved in this musical celebration, all ready to offer a night of choral singing that would echo in the hearts of those in attendance.

The structure of the gala included three well-defined parts: Italian, Brazilian and Bolivian music. With great enthusiasm, Herrera mentioned some of the soloists who would shine tonight: “Our director, Jorge Villarroel, will perform alongside Janette Dornellas, and the choir will participate in the second part as well as at the end of the first.”

Each piece of music was carefully constructed, and some of the iconic works to be performed included excerpts from “Tosca” and “Nabucco,” resonating in the soul of lyrical art.
Among the nuances of Bolivian music, the one that captured the most attention was Eduardo Caba‘s romance, a piece that, without a doubt, would evoke the romanticism and passion of the native land.

As they prepared for the big moment, the addition of the performance pointed out an inescapable truth: the presentation was the result of months of hard work. “We have been preparing this for more than three months. “The theater deserves first-class performances,” Herrera stated proudly, highlighting the dedication that each member of the choir had put into this special night.

The Municipal Theater housed stories of great artists in its walls, and becoming part of that tradition was reason enough for the University Choir. “It is very satisfying to come here,” said Melissa, revealing the joy they felt in sharing the show with the community.

The presence of Janette Dornellas, a prominent Brazilian lyrical singer, elevated the gala even further, turning it into a multicultural event that embraced the roots of different countries.

The night promised to be a celebration of talent and collaboration, uniting cultures through art. At the end of the talk, Melissa Herrera did not stop inviting the community to follow the activities of the Culture and Arts Division of the Universidad Mayor de San Andrés, where more presentations to come were already on the horizon.

While the theater lights went out and the murmur of the audience softened, the San Andrés University Choir was preparing to mark the beginning of an evening full of emotions, where music would become the universal language that unites souls.

The Lyric Gala, with its wealth of talent and dazzling repertoire, was about to begin, and the echo of those 75 students would resonate in every corner of the theater, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of those who would have the pleasure of witnessing it.
