Despite the initial shock, Nikita underwent a series of intensive treatments to combat the disease.
After waiting for titanium ribs to be created to aid in the delicate surgery, Nikita underwent a double mastectomy and had part of her chest plate removed in October 2023.
Doctors were able to save her ribs and Nikita was sent to London for six weeks of proton beam therapy. But her mother said the treatment left her with severe burns.
By March 2024, Nikita was told she was cancer-free, but her relief was short-lived.
Over the next few months, she began experiencing pain and swelling in her legs, along with a persistent cough and recurring chest infections.
Shadows developed in her lungs, which doctors initially thought were due to inflammation from her treatment, prompting further tests.
When Nikita had a CT scan, the results were shocking. The cancer had returned in his lungs and doctors said there was nothing more they could do.
