“A lot of game-time decisions” will shape Nebraska’s football lineup against Purdue

Gunnar Gottula will start at left tackle for Nebraska against Purdue on Saturday, and cornerback Tommy Hill will be the decision to be made at game time.

Those were two personal updates from Husker football coach Matt Rhule as he met with reporters for the final time Thursday before the team traveled to West Lafayette, Indiana.

An injury to Turner Corcoran in the first quarter of Nebraska’s overtime loss to Illinois last week led to Gottola’s lead. The freshman from Lincoln finished the game in place of Corcoran.

Hill had to miss the Illinois game due to severe heel pain from plantar fasciitis and was replaced by USC transfer Sair Wright.

“If you come to the game and he can walk away, that’s great,” Rhule said of Hill. “If he can’t, Ceyair has proven he’s a cornerback in the Big Ten.”

Hill isn’t the only Husker whose condition was uncertain 48 hours before kickoff. “We’re going to do some stuff at full speed tomorrow and see where some of these guys are. … There are a lot of decisions at stake,” Rhule said, without naming names.

John Hohl will once again be in charge of the batting duties while Tristan Alfano continues to recover from a groin injury. Rhule said Hohl “recovered well” after missing a 39-yard field goal that would have given the Huskers the lead with three minutes left in the Illinois game.
