A lot cheaper than Aldi, but not everything is running smoothly yet: welcome to our country’s new price breaker

The first Belgian branch of Mere, a Russian supermarket chain, has been opened in Opwijk. It looks like it sounds: a warehouse with canned goods and laundry products on pallets. That should make Mere twenty percent cheaper than Aldi. But not everything runs smoothly. The suppliers do not want to join, the bancontact does not work and the crowds are not forthcoming for the time being. “However, we have nothing to do with the politics of Russia,” says store manager Dmitri.
