– A loss for KrF and Norwegian politics – VG

Tough roof: The last few days have led to a lot of opposition for Ropstad. Now he gets support.

Kjell Ingolf Ropstad has in recent days had to endure massive criticism. Now comes the support.

Published:

Friday revealed Aftenposten that KrF leader and Minister for Children and Families Kjell Ingolf Ropstad had reported that he paid rent for the boys’ room at Moisund to the Prime Minister’s Office (SMK) – without actually having paid his parents.

Ropstad escaped with the move to pay 175,000 kroner in taxes, the newspaper writes.

Since then, criticism has been directed at the Minister. On Saturday, it therefore became clear that Kjell Ingolf Ropstad will resign as leader of the Christian People’s Party (KrF) next Friday in connection with the party’s national board meeting. He also resigns as Minister of State. This is how it had to go, says VG’s commentator.

After announcing his departure, he thanked and apologized via his Facebook page:

– Able to give people another chance

During the post, the statements of support have come in droves. Many thank him for the job, say they pray for him and send yellow hearts – in KrF’s color.

Kjell Ingolf Ropstad belongs to Oslo Mission Church Bethlehem. Pastor and leader of the church, Erik Andreassen, will not speak to the media on Saturday night as Ropstad’s close friend and pastor says he will be wrong for him to think about the last days’ events in the media. Andreassen refers to statements he himself has posted on social media.

“Today I think I’m grateful that my biggest mistakes do not define the truth about me. And on Francis Spufford’s definition of sin: The human propencity to fuck things up. (HPTFTU). Then I am happy that Norway is a people who often manage to give people a second chance “, he writes on Twitter.

– The criticism has been unreasonably harsh

Ropstad’s former closest adviser, Julian T. Farner-Calvert, gives his support to Ropstad in a Facebook post. VG has received permission to reproduce the post.

«Thank you for leading and for the efforts you have made for KrF. It has been painful to experience the pressure you have been subjected to. I do not know a more honorable man than you. I think the criticism of you has been unreasonably harsh. There is no doubt, when you give in, this is a loss for KrF and Norwegian politics “, writes Farner-Calvert in the post, which was first mentioned by Dagbladet.

– Feeling sad

County leader Britt Egeland Gulbrandsen in KrF-Viken reacts with sadness:

– I feel a little sad and think first and foremost of Kjell Ingolf and his family who are in pain now, I do not think this was done on purpose. I know him as an honest, hard working man, says Gulbrandsen to VG.

County leader Morten Helland in Vestland KrF also says he is sad about the outcome:

– I think that everyone feels sad on a day like this and wants to express a thank you for what Kjell Ingolf Ropstad has been for the party. This has been demanding for the party and for him. He has received unfair criticism and harsh treatment, especially on social media. But we support him in a this is a right decision, both for him and the party, says Helland.
