A Look into Comedian Abu’s Career and Restaurant Project

LOSEN TERRASSE/STAVERN (Nettavisen): At the beginning of July, comedian Abubakar Hussein (36), best known as “Abu”, opened his new restaurant and nightlife project Losen Terrasse.

Hussein is known from the TV programs “Sofa” and “Abu og Mayoos Norge” together with his friend Mayoo Indiran (32), and in the autumn he will appear on the screen in the Discovery program “16 weeks of hell”.

It is not only reality and humor that Hussain has dabbled in throughout his career. He started out as an actor and over the years has appeared in a number of series and films, most recently in the comedy series “Kasko”.

Recently, he has decided to focus on humor and business. Hussain told Nettavisen why he chose to leave acting.

– My snout is not made for that

The 36-year-old’s very first role was in the film “Isac” which was released in 2005 and after that appeared in the TV series “Taxi”. It was in the latter series that Hussain realized that the industry was not for him.

– There are very few roles in the acting industry for Pakistanis in Norway. Then I found humor. My plan wasn’t to work on this, but when I did “Taxi” I thought I’d try my hand as a comedian.

The 36-year-old pointed out that the acting industry has improved now.

– Now it’s changed, now it’s almost a little too changed. I don’t trust a Pakistani called Erling, he said, twitching his smile.

Want roles with humor

Although his acting career has been put on hold, the “Kasko” series gave Hussain more flavor.

– Then I played a role that was just me in a “gangster” version. I would like to do it again, but preferably with more humor. Serious roles are not for me, he told me and continued:

– When I see myself in serious roles, I get “lighthearted”. My snout isn’t made for that.

– I was naive

When Nettavisen had a chat with Hussain, he could also say that he was happier before the whole of Norway knew who he was.

– I was naive about how the world is. The whole celebrity life is so much, I wish I could do this anonymously because then I could just be myself all the time, he said, adding:

– You never know who is your friend or not. You become so unsure of everyone. I liked myself a lot better before, I was a lot nicer.
