A Look at the Rich History of Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat: Memories and Events from April

In recognition of the impact of these events, we bring you This Week in History. This week, we’ll be looking at the events that took place between 14-20 April throughout history. Join us as we reflect on some of the most significant moments that have shaped the world we live in today.


The Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat has a rich history that spans over a century. This history is filled with countless events that have shaped the Jamaat into what it is today. Here is a glimpse into some of these events that occurred on various dates in history:

On 14th April 1887, the Promised Messiah, Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (as), wrote a letter to Hazrat Hakim Maulvi Nuruddin Sahib (ra). In this letter, among other important matters, the Promised Messiah (as) informed him that he was sending him five copies of his latest book, Shahna-e-Haq, along with one part of the Rigveda through recorded delivery. This letter is found in Maktubat-e-Ahmad, Vol. 2, p. 31.

On 14th April 1941, Yadvinder Singh Mahendra, the last Maharaja of Patiala, visited Qadian. Patiala State was a significant princely state in British India, that enjoyed a degree of self-governance. It was located near Qadian. The Maharaja was given a warm welcome, and he had the honour of meeting Hazrat Musleh-e-Maud (ra).

On 14th April 2006, Hazrat Khalifatul Masih V (aba) inaugurated the 22nd Jalsa Salana of Jamaat-e-Ahmadiyya Australia with flag hoisting, followed by a Friday sermon. Huzoor (aba) also granted audiences to Ahmadis.

On 15th April 2013, Hazrat Khalifatul Masih V (aba) delivered the concluding address at the second International Conference of Muslim Television Ahmadiyya (MTA), at the Baitul Futuh Mosque, London.

On 16th April 1944, Hazrat Musleh-e-Maud (ra) addressed the Jalsa Musleh-e-Maud in Delhi in front of 5,000 people. Some opponents attempted to create disorder and started pelting stones, which resulted in injuries to some Ahmadis.

On 16th April 1970, during his visit to Nigeria, Hazrat Khalifatul Masih III (rh) addressed a press conference in Lagos, answered various questions, and shed light on the economic problems and their solution in light of Islamic teachings.

On 16th April 1999, during his Friday sermon, Hazrat Khalifatul Masih IV (rh) mentioned the details of the martyrdom of Mirza Ghulam Qadir Sahib, which took place on 14th April in Rabwah. Huzoor (rh) said that he was the first martyr from the Promised Messiah’s (as) family.

On 16th April 2004, during his Friday sermon, Hazrat Khalifatul Masih V (aba) mentioned the blessings of Allah Almighty manifested during his recent tour of West Africa. Moreover, Huzoor (aba) also inaugurated the MTA2 TV channel.

On 16th April 2010, Hazrat Khalifatul Masih V (aba) delivered his Friday sermon from the Jamaat’s salat centre, located in San Pietro in Casale, Bologna, Italy.

On 17th April 1905, Hazrat Hakim Maulvi Nuruddin Sahib (ra) authored an article about the earthquake in Kangra, India, in accordance with the prophecy of the Promised Messiah (as).

On 17th April 1970, during his visit to Nigeria, Hazrat Khalifatul Masih III (rh) delivered his Friday sermon from the Muslim Teachers Training College in Lagos.

On 18th April 1897, the Promised Messiah (as) issued a notification titled “Hearken Sardar Rajinder Singh Sahib”. In it, Huzoor (as) aptly refuted a false and provocative publication by Sardar Rajinder Singh.

On 18th April 2008, Hazrat Khalifatul Masih V (aba) delivered his Friday sermon from Bagh-e-Ahmad, near Accra, Ghana.

On 19th April 1970, during his visit to Ghana, Hazrat Khalifatul Masih III (rh) granted audiences to the members of the Jamaat. In the evening, Huzoor (rh) graced a reception where various ambassadors, state ministers, church representatives and correspondents of radio and news agencies were present.

On 19th April 2003, Hazrat Khalifatul Masih IV (rh) passed away in London. His funeral prayer was led by Hazrat Khalifatul Masih V (aba), and he was laid to rest in Islamabad, Tilford, UK.

On 19th April 2017, Hazrat Khalifatul Masih V (aba) laid the foundation stone for the first Ahmadiyya mosque in the German university town of Marburg.

On 20th April 1893, Hazrat Mirza Bashir Ahmad Sahib (ra) was born to the Promised Messiah (as).

On 20th April 1952, during the night of 20 April, Hazrat Amma Jan, Syeda Nusrat Jahan Begum Sahibara, the wife of the Promised Messiah (as), passed away in Rabwah.

On 20th April 1984, Hazrat Khalifatul Masih IV (rh) delivered his last Friday sermon in Pakistan before migrating to London.

These events give a glimpse of the rich history of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat, which has played a significant role in shaping the world, both socially and spiritually. This history serves as an inspiration for Ahmadis all over the world, who continue to spread the message of peace and love, as taught by the Promised Messiah (as) and his Khulafa.
