After experiencing an end to the season and a hellish start to the summer, including relegation to Ligue 2, then an administrative decision sending the club to National, before seeing it suspended, Bordeaux showed a satisfactory face for its debut in the Ligue 2. Indeed, the Girondins have chained two consecutive clean sheets during the first two days, an unprecedented event which puts an end to a complicated series of 70 games.
Red lantern and worst Ligue 1 defense in the 21st century last May (91 goals conceded)the Girondins de Bordeaux experienced one of the saddest episodes in their history. Relegated to Ligue 2 for the first time in over 30 years, the Bordelais almost finished in National, after a decision by the DNCG which was then contested by the FFF. A relief which was then followed by a decent start to the season: 4 points taken in 2 days of the championship (0-0 against Valenciennes, then 3-0 at Rodez). Currently 2e of Ligue 2, the FCGB has mainly chained two consecutive clean sheets, a first in 70 games. A disturbing statistic, revealed by the site Girondins33.
The pass of 3 against Niort?
Indeed, to see Bordeaux keep a clean sheet twice or more in a row, we had to go back to the 2020-2021 season, and a start to the year when we had to wait for the 4e day to see the Girondins concede their first goals, during a defeat at Lens 2-1. Previously Bordeaux had held in check Nantes (0-0), had won at Angers (0-2) then had another draw this time against Lyon (0-0).
Three clean sheets to start the season, this could be repeated next Saturday at 7 p.m. with the reception of Niort, 13e of the last fiscal year. To note that these two teams have met only once in official competitionduring a 1/16e of the Coupe de France final in 2007, the Girondins then won 5-4 on penalties, after a score of 3-3 after extra time.
