NEW YORK – Two weeks after a fire destroyed a beloved Long Island florist, the business was able to reopen, thanks to a vacant restaurant providing space and turning the dining room into a florist’s gallery and the kitchen into a studio of design.
The Nov. 13 fire in Freeport injured several firefighters and destroyed Duryea’s, a local florist on Guy Lombardo Avenue since the 1930s.
But the business was out of commission for just two weeks before finding a creative new home: Otto’s Sea Grill, a nearby restaurant that’s closed for the winter season and had room to spare.
