A long afternoon for La Force in Rivière-du-Loup

The Force of Montreal directed no less than 50 shots on the goal of Boston Pride, but still lost the flag 5 to 0, Saturday afternoon, at the Premier Tech Center in Rivière-du-Loup.

The Montreal team came up against the best goalkeeper on the circuit, Corinne Schroeder. The Manitoba native, who had a stellar 11-1-0 record and .946 save percentage heading into the day’s game, was stellar once again.

The Force was also powerless against fellow Premier Hockey Federation star Loren Gabel. The Clarkson University alum took her season total to 23 points in 12 games by threading the needle four times.

Gabel notably struck twice on the massive attack in the first period, when Kim Deschênes and Alyssa Holmes received two consecutive minor penalties.

Peter Smith’s squad worked hard in the middle period to close the gap, directing 19 shots on the net and taking advantage of two power plays. Again, however, Schroeder stood like a wall.

Christina Putigna tripled Boston’s lead in the final period, then Gabel scored twice late in the game to put the duel beyond the hosts’ reach. Quebecer Élizabeth Giguère was also an accomplice in the last goal of the game.

Between the Force posts, Marie-Soleil Deschênes was simply no match for it, yielding five times in 27 shots.

La Force and Pride will meet again on Sunday, once again at the Premier Tech Centre.
