A “little story” of Carcassonne which joins the big one

A “as recent an update as possible of Carcassonne’s past” : this is the stated ambition of the A little history of Carcassonne, which has just been published by Cairn editions from the pen of Claude Marquié. From the outset, in his foreword, the author brushes aside the critics who might think: “Another story of Carcassonne”

Personal research

“In reality, beyond the dates punctuating more or less important events, history is constantly evolving, because constant research explores areas hitherto little known or deepens the reflection on questions already studied”, rightly points out Claude Marquié, who is not among the last to deepen, day after day, the past of his city.

This is how his work, of great clarity and conciseness that does not detract from historical precision, explores some paths identified by the author himself, such as the location of medieval sickness or the world Carcassonnais worker in the 18th century. Claude Marquié does not forget to greet his fellow historians either, whether they are the archaeologists who brought to light the original Bastide (the one before the fire of the Black Prince), Henri Chatevaire for her work on painted ceilings or Marie-Elise Gardel for those carried out on the fortifications and the suburbs.

This A little history of Carcassonne, illustrated with several photos, some unpublished, is to slip into every pocket so as not to ignore a city where the City should not capture all the light.
