Hertha BSC won their spark of hope match against 1. FC Köln 2-0 (1-0). Another accident prevented in the standings, 14 points, 15. The victory before the World Cup break is very important. And most importantly: the club’s general meeting on Sunday goes without a hangover. Even if the blue-and-whites’ situation is sporting and financially threatening.
Kanga scores after nine minutes
Response after last minute knockout 1: 2 in Stuttgart? Hertha started aggressively right away. It looked good and was successful in the 9th minute. Very simple, very direct. Marvin Plattenhardt with a throw-in for Marco Richter, who then immediately returned to Platte. Flank and forward Willy Kanga scored with a diving header to make it 1-0.
The Franco-Ivorian celebrated his second goal of the season and coach Sandro Schwarz was even happier on the outside line. He threw up his arms with a yell. Early leadership, very important!
Double happiness for Hertha
But what the coach wasn’t happy about at the start: His players let themselves be pushed too far back and Cologne had two first-rate chances. Sargia Adamyan shot over the goal from three (!) meters (15′) and Linton Maina’s attempt flew just a few centimeters from the left post (26′). Hertha finally got lucky in a match…
… and Kanga next time. Goalkeeper Olli Christensen’s long pass to Dodi Lukebakio, strong sprint, cross, but Kanga only hits the side net (28th). Simple football again, as Sandro Schwarz claims.
Richter makes it 2-0
In the locker room it’s 1-0. And with renewed courage we went out again. Lukebakio sprinted again, crossed again and Cologne goalkeeper Marvin Schwäbe could only defend with his foot. The ball rushed to Richter and he shot directly under the crossbar to make it 2-0 (54th). Nice goal, great celebration and it was already the deciding factor in this match. Second successful home win. But the situation remains threatening.
