Lisa Marie Presley was born on February 1, 1968, in Memphis, Tennessee. The first years of her life she lived on the world-famous Graceland estate, but when father Elvis and mother Priscilla separated in 1971, Lisa Marie went with her mother.
She was 9 years old when her father died in 1977. Lisa Marie followed in his footsteps and became a singer, but she never became as successful as her father. She released three albums for which she wrote many songs herself, in 2003, 2005 and 2012.
In 2018 – years after Elvis’ death – a duet by Lisa Marie with her father was released.
Presley was married to Michael Jackson between 1994 and 1996. They broke up when Michael Jackson fought child molestation allegations.
In 2002, there was a short four-month marriage to Nicolas Cage.
Four children
She had her children in other marriages. With singer and musician Danny Keough – her first husband – she had daughter Riley (33) and son Benjamin, who died in 2020 and was 27 years old.
She had twins with guitarist Michael Lockwood in her last marriage; the girls Harper and Finley (14).
Benjamin died by suicide in 2020 at the age of 27. In an extended essay in People Magazine Presley said last year that her life has been marked by death, grief and loss since childhood.
‘Grief does not stop’
“Grief doesn’t stop and in no way goes away, even after years. It’s something you have to carry with you for the rest of your life, despite what other people or cultures would have us believe.”
Six months ago, Lisa Marie Presley posted a post on Instagram of her foot and that of son Benjamin, with the same tattoos. She wrote that they had them put together on Mother’s Day a few years ago: “This is a Celtic eternity knot. It symbolizes our eternal connection.”
‘Broken’
The very last post on her Instagram account dates from August 31, 2022. It’s a photo of the interview in People Magazine published the day before, saying she was “devastated” by the death of her son.
Lisa Marie has spoken openly in the past about her addiction susceptibility and the period in her youth when she struggled with drugs and alcohol.
Golden Globes
Presley attended the Golden Globes on Tuesday. There she and her mother saw how actor Austin Butler won awards for his role as Elvis in the movie Elvis.
“It was really mind-blowing. It took me days to process it because it was so perfect and authentic,” Presley said of Butler’s portrayal earlier this week.
Yesterday Lisa Marie Presley passed away in a hospital in Los Angeles after cardiac arrest.
Her mother Priscilla said in a statement: “It is with a heavy heart that I must share the devastating news that my beautiful daughter Lisa Marie has left us.” She continued, “She was the most passionate, strong and loving woman I have ever known. We ask for privacy as we try to cope with this great loss.”
‘Never forget’
Several celebrities have commented on her passing. For example, fashion designer Donatella Versace writes on Instagram: “Your beauty and kindness made you shine so brightly. Rest in peace Lisa Marie. We will never forget you.”
John Travolta says – also on Instagram – that he will miss her: “My love and heart goes out to Riley, Priscilla, Harper and Finley”, referring to the daughters and mother of Lisa Marie Presley.
