Klaus Feurstein (68) – pioneer of the club scene has passed away.
FELDKIRCH Klaus Feurstein, a legend of Feldkirch gastronomy and the Vorarlberg club scene, passed away peacefully at the age of 68 after a serious illness. Feurstein ran the Café Feurstein and the Stone Club in Montfortstadt for decades, which developed into a popular meeting place for music lovers and night owls.

The trained confectioner and confectioner was a pioneer, especially when it comes to electronic music and, in particular, Detroit techno and French house. Klaus Feurstein always had his finger on the pulse, he worked for his guests every day and had a decisive influence on the scene in Vorarlberg. He also succeeded in bringing international greats in electronic music to the Montfort city. Friends and companions mourn him.

Feldkirch Mag. Wolfgang Heller, who worked as a pharmacist and entrepreneur, explains in an interview with the UN: “With the death of Klaus Feurstein, a harmonious friendship has ended. One could fully rely on the other. We have done a lot together ”.

After elementary school, Klaus Feurstein, who was born in Feldkirch and was also active as a boy scout, completed an apprenticeship as a confectioner and confectioner, passed the journeyman’s and master’s examination and went to the USA. There he worked as a pastry chef at the Watergate Hotel in Washington DC. The building complex gained notoriety as the site of the Watergate Affair, which resulted in the resignation of the then US President Richard Nixon. In the USA, Klaus Feurstein was seriously injured during a parachute jump, but suffered no permanent damage. He was also a keen water skier.

In 1976 Klaus Feurstein took over the coffee house from his mother. With its foyer, which was remodeled in the 1980s, it was long considered “the meeting place” in Feldkirch. The lunch menus and baked goods from Feurstein’s partner Maria Bawart were particularly popular.

Stone Club
Feurstein’s love belonged to the Stone Club, which opened in 1978. With him, the then 26-year-old Klaus Feurstein launched the region’s first trendy bar and set new standards in Vorarlberg nightlife. Until recently, the 28 square meter bar was an important place for electronic music lovers. Falco even appears on the guest list. The club filled a large void in Feldkirch’s nightlife. Feurstein himself also regularly put on records. As a passionate record collector and DJ, he followed the techno scene since the early 1990s.

The fact that the two restaurants in the house on the corner of Schlossergasse and Schmiedgasse were closed at the end of 2019 left a large gap in Feldkirch. Although Feurstein had announced his withdrawal years ago, the regular guests took note of the final end with great sadness. Klaus Feurstein was also a very big car lover. Shortly before his death, he fulfilled a long-cherished dream with the purchase of his dream car, a Renault Alpine. EE
