The KNMI warns of slipperiness due to snowfall in the north and east of the country. Code yellow (“caution”) has been announced for the provinces of Friesland, Groningen, Drenthe, Flevoland, Overijssel and the north of Gelderland, because it can get slippery. The notice is valid until midnight.
According to Weerplaza, a few centimeters of snow can fall. Most weather models assume between 1 and 3 centimeters of snow in parts of Flevoland, Overijssel and Drenthe, with up to 3 to 4 centimeters locally.
Snow won’t stay on the roads for very long. The ground temperature is still above freezing. Data from Rijkswaterstaat show that the surface temperature of national roads in the north and east of the country is around or above freezing in most places.
Gritters have been on the road in various places. Since 19:00, more than 200,000 kilos of salt have been spread.
