It is a process initiated in 2016 by the lawyer Guillermo Mulet against the former governor and current Argentine ambassador to Israel and Cyprus, Sergio Urribarri.
In the framework of a conciliatory hearing set for this Friday, July 2, in a case for slander and libel, Mulet assured that he will request the arrest of Urribarri if he does not appear.
The judicial appointment, which the former governor may attend under virtual mode, will be at 9 am before the Judge of Guarantees No. 2 of Paraná, José Eduardo Ruhl.
“Urribarri is notified of the hearing and if he does not appear I will request the arrest warrant for when he enters the country. It is a criminal case, a complaint that I filed against him for slander and insults for a number of things he said about me, ”said Mulet.
In this sense, he added that “he could intervene for Zoom, but I don’t know if he will. Before he was absent because he had legislative powers (Urribarri was a provincial deputy). Now it does not have them ”. He also pointed out that “the Geneva Convention only gives him immunity from arrest in diplomatic tasks and at headquarters.”
If eventually the ambassador decides to be absent, “the arrest request is made before the Guarantees judge, because in this case a prosecutor does not intervene,” Mulet detailed.
Finally, he stated that “in the case I did not ask for financial compensation, but if Urribarri made an offer as part of an apology, he would donate it to the Crisálida organization.” The aforementioned organization is recognized in the province for its work with children and adolescents suffering from cancer.
The cause
The complaint originated after the complaint for illicit enrichment that Mulet and Rubén Pagliotto presented against the former president, as a result of a journalistic report published in the magazine Analysis that gave account of the patrimonial growth that the Urribarri family registered. That presentation prompted the reaction of the ex-president.
“One of them is an opposition political leader and in fact has recently been a candidate for senator for the Cambiemos Front and the other has a criminal record with judicial charges for seizing elements stolen in a robbery, having been timely detained by the Police of the Province. And if that were not enough, I remember that Guillermo Mulet is under suspicion of covering up people who participated in a serious crime at an important poultry company in Hernandarias “, said Urribarri through a press release released on December 21, 2015 and by which Mulet sued him for slander and insults. His lawyers are Iván Vernengo and Damián Petenatti.
The first conciliation hearing for this conflict was convened for April 25, 2016, the second was on June 8 and the third on August 4 of that year. On all occasions Urribarri was absent and the instance was considered failed.
